Unexpected Heroes

Yesterday, a colleague posted a snapshot of the read out of the thermometer on her car as she was stuck in a construction traffic jam in Midland. The temperature read 116 degrees.

Many people have been affected by heat in the last couple of weeks. Some say it's hotter than usual. Old timers may say it isn't. Whether it is or isn't doesn't matter. There are people in our vicinity who are stuck in hot houses without air conditioning who simultaneously suffer chronic medical conditions. The heat becomes a serious factor of daily living for them and many others.

Sometimes we learn things in the middle of adverse situations. Sometimes we have opportunities to be present for others or offer simple hospitality. Abraham learned that while he was sitting under the shade of an oak grove in the heat of the day. God showed up. Right there when Abraham least expected it and where he least expected.

What would you do if God showed up on a sweltering afternoon in the middle of West Texas and had some startling news for you?
