I'm better than you. No you're not. Yes I am!
In our Reformed Theology class this week, we read about who and what the church is. The church universal is a community of confessed sinners who receive grace and are sent into the world by Christ for a particular purpose.
The world is a boastful place. It's called marketing and brand management. The church should not be a boastful place. Our Philippians reading for this week reminds us to do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit. Instead base all our actions in humility and consider other people to be better than ourselves.
So what is the church? Maybe it's a place where Christ followers practice elevating the interests of others over our own interests.
The lectionary readings this week are: Psalm 25:1-9; Ezekiel 18:1-4, 25-32; Matthew 21:23-32; Philippians 2:1-13.
Prayer Breakfast this Saturday at 8 a.m. in the fellowship hall. Communion next Sunday.
