11-30-2022 Acts 5:17-42

Wednesday, December 7 we will look at Acts Chapter 6. Following the study we will celebrate Thanksgiving/Christmas with a simple fellowship luncheon in the library. (Soup-Leslie and Jane, bread-Sue, dessert-Nancy Koger and Monika, with water and tea-Tammy and Donnita). I invited Kay Scott, our secretary of the church to join us.

Apostles as Models

Apostles are people who love and serve God faithfully

  • conduits of God’s salvation

  • respond to needs of others

  • proclaim gospel in spite of threats from religious leaders

  • resolve to remain obedient to God

  • vulnerable before those who have their own ideas about God’s will and have power to stop them

  • courage to persist because God instructs them

Characteristics of Early Christians ( Barclay)

  1. They had courage.

  2. They had principles.

obedience to God must come first.

“Is this what God would want me to do?”

  3. They had a clear idea of their function

    1. They were witnesses for Christ (they spoke of firsthand knowledge)

    2. Gospel is true = Jesus is the Messiah, was crucified, died, was resurrected. The Gospel is unstoppable truth.
