CHURCH NEWS FOR THE BIG SPRING HERALD

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, BIG SPRING

July 19, 2020

Wednesday Bible study met this week in Fellowship Hall at 6:00 p.m. to study the lectionary for Sunday. Everyone is welcome to come to this study; there is plenty of room for social distancing.

The Thursday Lunch Bunch, which had formerly met at various local restaurants, met on July 16 in Fellowship Hall as a Brown Bag lunch. Getting a to-go lunch from one of the local restaurants has been suggested to help local businesses during the current economic distress.

For a laugh or a bit of cowboy wisdom, everyone is invited to tune in to “Tom’s Talk Time and Tall Tales” hosted by elder Tom Koger on KBYG Radio at 106.3 FM or 1400 AM at 11:00 a.m. on Friday mornings, sponsored by First Presbyterian Church.

The Children’s Sunday School classes will begin meeting for a study of The Children’s Bible, led by Destiny Hallford and assisted by Buddy Cochrane. There will be room for distancing safely.

The Discovery Class adult Sunday School, which was slated to begin meeting again on July 19, has been pushed back one week. Participants will spread out in the theater room and wear masks. Vicki Miller will lead the class in a six-session DVD study entitled More to Your Story” by Max Lucado. The group will convene July 26.

John Ferguson is not re-convening the Covenant Class at this time. Members of this class are welcome to join the Discovery Class in the theater room.

New members Elizabeth Margraf and her daughter Hope Ellin were welcomed to this congregation last Sunday during worship, Elizabeth by reaffirmation of faith and Hope by the sacrament of baptism.

Lectionary passages used for the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost are: Genesis 28:10-19a; Psalm 139:7-12; Romans 8:22-25. Rev. Cross has titled his sermon “Surrounded by Hope.” Rev. Allen Cross will lead the worship service.  Organist/music director Gabe Martinez leads the congregation in singing the hymns, as well as accompanying on the organ and piano.

Anyone who is not attending worship physically may hear the service on KBST 1490 AM at 11:00 a.m. as usual or online at www.fpcbigspring.com by selecting the SERMONS tab and the correct date. A copy of the liturgy for the service may be downloaded from the website or by receiving a copy by calling the church office
