FOR SEPTEMBER 6 2020

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, BIG SPRING

The Service Committee asks members to donate hygiene products from now until the end of September for people in need. Travel size items needed are the following: deodorant, combs, razors, tooth paste, tooth brushes, dental floss, shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, wash cloths, shave cream. These items may be placed in the basket in the Narthex on Sunday or dropped off at the church at any time.

For anyone wishing to join in a daily prayer, one may go to fpcbigspring.com and select DAILY PRAYERS. Rev. Allen Cross also posts a Weekly Devotional at that website, which may provide food for thought or help during time of stress or feelings of isolation. The devotional is posted on Wednesdays. Go to fpcbigspring.com and select DEVOTIONALS.

The Discovery Class, led by Vicki Miller, will embark on a Adam Hamilton study entitled The Walk: Five Essential Practices of the Christian Life.

The Children’s Sunday School Class, led by Destiny Hallford, assisted by Buddy Cochrane, is studying lessons from the Children’s Story Bible. The Youth Sunday School Class, led by Tom Koger, is continuing a study of the Sermon on the Mount.

Wednesday Lectionary Bible Study continues to meet in Fellowship Hall at 6:00 p.m. with physical participants and welcomes those who are staying at home to join by computer on Zoom. The link to join in the Zoom group will be posted on the church website, in Faith Notes, and in the Sunday worship bulletin. The lectionary for the next week is printed on the back page of the church bulletin each Sunday.

The Thursday Lunch Bunch is meeting in Fellowship Hall at 11:30. Each person is asked to bring a brown bag lunch or an order from one of the local restaurants.

It has been decided to resume the Sunday morning Take Ten fellowship in the parlor, beginning in September. The following guidelines are in place to provide for everyone’s safety: no home-baked goods, individually-wrapped items only, individual juice servings, plates and napkins supplied by the church, and social distancing is recommended.

Lectionary passages for the Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost are: Exodus 12:1-4, 11-14; Psalm 149; Romans 13:11-22. Rev. Cross has titled his sermon “A Ready People.” Rev. Allen Cross will lead the worship service and preside over Communion (which will be by Intinction). Organist/music director Gabe Martinez leads the music on the organ and piano.

Anyone who is not attending worship physically may hear the service on KBST 1490 AM at 11:00 a.m. as usual or online at fpcbigspring.com by selecting the SERMONS tab and the correct date.
