The Service Committee asks members to donate hygiene products from now until the end of September for people in need. Travel size items needed are the following: deodorant, combs, razors, tooth paste, tooth brushes, dental floss, shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, wash cloths, shave cream. These items may be placed in the basket in the Narthex on Sunday or dropped off at the church at any time.
For anyone wishing to join in a daily prayer, one may go to fpcbigspring.com and select DAILY PRAYER. Rev. Allen Cross also posts a Weekly Devotional at that website, which may provide food for thought or help during time of stress or feelings of isolation. The devotional is posted on Wednesdays. Presbyterian Women will resume their monthly meetings and Bible study on Tuesday, September 22, at 2:00 p.m. in the library. The study for 2020-2021 is called Into the Light: Finding Hope through Prayers of Lament by P. Lynn Miller. The study books may be picked up at the church. Everyone is welcome to participate in PW.
The Discovery Class, led by Vicki Miller, is in the second lesson of an Adam Hamilton study entitled The Walk: Five Essential Practices of the Christian Life. The first lesson considered prayer and praise; the second considers the practice of study.
The Children’s Sunday School Class, led by Destiny Hallford, assisted by Buddy Cochrane, is studying lessons from the Children’s Story Bible.
The Youth Sunday School Class, led by Tom Koger, is continuing a study of the Sermon on the Mount.
Wednesday Lectionary Bible Study continues to meet in Fellowship Hall at 6:00 p.m. with physical participants and welcomes those who are staying at home to join by computer on Zoom. The link to join in the Zoom group will be posted on the church website, in Faith Notes, and in the Sunday worship bulletin.
The Thursday Lunch Bunch is meeting in Fellowship Hall at 11:30.
It has been decided to resume the Sunday morning Take Ten fellowship in the parlor, beginning in September. The following guidelines are in place to provide for everyone’s safety: no home-baked goods, individually-wrapped items only, individual juice servings, plates and napkins supplied by the church, and social distancing is recommended. Paula Farquhar hosted Take Ten last Sunday. The Kennemurs will be hosts for this week.
Lectionary passages for the Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost are: Psalm 114; Romans 14:7-9; Matthew 18:21-35.. Rev. Cross has titled his sermon “Why Do We Forgive?” Rev. Allen Cross will lead the worship service. Organist/music director Gabe Martinez leads the music on the organ and piano.
