Pastor’s Perspective
The season of Easter overlaps both April and May this year. As we turn the corner into the new month, we continue with Easter themes and post-resurrection themes. We will read many sections in Acts about the forming of the mission and nature of the early church. We will also read several sections from the prophet Isaiah about restoration of God's people from exile.
These readings give us Easter themes of God's restoration of human beings through the legacy of Christ that the church, the body of Christ, carries on in the world. They give us a look back to our foundations as well as a view into the future and how Christ continues to shape world history through His church.
Ascension of the Lord is celebrated the 18th of May. Pentecost is celebrated the 28th of May. These are both significant occasions in the church that affect the church's nature and mission.
May has four Sundays so there will be a prayer breakfast on the 27th but no potluck lunch in May.
Don't forget the weekly classes this month. The adult Sunday school class explores Luke's theology of the downtrodden in Jesus' care for the least of society. Wednesday women's Bible study and the History Nerds continue. The Guthrie Scholars' study of Shirley Guthrie's book Christian Doctrine continues Monday evenings.
God speed and God bless!
