Splish Splash
We've progressed quickly over the past thirty days. Advent seemed to fly by and then Christmas Eve and Christmas were one continuum since Sunday was Christmas day. Christmas Eve in the chapel was terrific and very intimate. The music was beautiful.
Now we have jumped ahead to the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River. Not every story about the events of Jesus' life are included in every gospel. Only two of the gospels include a nativity story but all of them include Jesus' baptism, crucifixion and resurrection. Clearly, those three things are the nucleus of the story of God incarnate, Immanuel, on the earthly mission to bring grace and announce the in-breaking of God's kingdom. This week we'll take closer consideration of Jesus' baptism.
The lectionary scriptures for this week are: Psalm 29; Isaiah 42:1-9; Matthew 3:13-17; Acts 10:34-43.
This week the schedule of mid-week events returns. So mark your calendars for fellowship and learning. Next Sunday, we'll install our two new Session members, Helen Glass and Paula Farquahar.
See you in church!
