There will be a short congregational meeting at the close of worship this Sunday to approve the pastor’s terms of call for 2021. These items are essentially the same as the terms proposed by the search committee last year and approved by the congregation when a new pastor was called.
Thanks to Gabe Martinez for the a cappella vocal introit of “Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley” in last Sunday’s worship service.
Order forms for Easter tulips were in the bulletins last Sunday. Anyone who did not get the form and wishes to participate may come by the church or call the church office.
During Lent, the daily prayer meditation will highlight a particular word, then a scripture passage with that word will be read, followed by a prayer – a linked three-part meditation.
Also during Lent, the video devotionals will speak directly to Lenten themes and will be following along with ideas from the chapters of Augustine’s Confessions, his autobiographical work that discussed his life before and after transformation under God.
Wednesday Lectionary Bible Study will not meet March 3 but will resume next week.
The Thursday Lunch Bunch meets in Fellowship Hall at 11:30.
The Discovery Class completes the study by Margaret Feinburg entitled Taste and See: Discovering God Among Butchers, Bakers, and Fresh Food Makers, a culinary exploration that puts scripture in terms of everyday activities. Vicki Miller is leading Lesson Five “Discovering the Liturgy of the Table.” The next study, Susan Robb’s Seven Words – Listening to Christ from the Cross, will be led by Helen Glass.
John Ferguson announces that the Covenant Class is ready to resume. If any of the members would like to meet, they are asked to notify the church office.
The Youth Bible Study, which is meeting in the Tent Room, has begun a study “Faith Questions: Being Presbyterian” led by Tom Koger.
The Children’s Class, led by Nancy Koger, begins lessons about the Season of Lent.
The Sunday morning Take Ten fellowship in the parlor between Sunday School and worship has resumed. Doug Mays is host for this week.
Lectionary passages for the Third Sunday in Lent are: Psalm 19; Exodus 20:1-6 (Preceded by the Shema: Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the lord is one. Blessed is the name of his glorious kingdom for ever and ever.);1 Corinthians 1:18, 22-25, 27-29. Rev. Allen Cross will lead the worship service and preside over the Lord’s Supper. The sermon topic is “Are You Foolish Enough to Follow Christ?.” Organist/music director Gabe Martinez leads the music on the organ and piano.
