Weekly Bulletin for June 7, 2022

This Sunday we celebrate the Trinity and acknowledge that God is Creator, Redeeming Word incarnate, and Sustaining Spirit. Other religions sometimes claim Christianity is not a monotheistic religion because we worship three separate Gods. Christians often admit to confusion over how the Trinity can be one God. How does it work? Where does it come from? Which part of the Trinity came first?

Combination deities have been around for thousands of years, but the intricate theology of the Trinity began to form early in Christianity with thinkers like Hebrew theologian Philo of Alexandria. Justin Martyr contributed the idea of the "logos of God" in the mid second century. Platonism and neo-Platonism were also contributors. Origen and then Tertullian added ideas. The concept of the Trinity was argued and finally achieved consensus at the Council of Nicaea in the fourth century.

This Sunday we'll just be thankful for the total love of God that may be multifaceted and never fails.
