A Time is surely coming.

News:
We have been in the season of Pentecost for many months. Recently, we've had festivals including All Saints and Reformation Sunday. In two Sundays we'll celebrate Christ the King or Reign of Christ Sunday. The Sunday following that is the beginning of Advent. So this week we have several lectionary texts that foretell of the coming day of God. But if you are thinking of that day as a Disney-fied fantasy or Hallmark channel movie about the beautiful Christ child in his golden diapers, you are about to be disappointed.
In the Bible this week, the day that is coming is a day of divine judgment. From Psalm 98 to Malachi 4: 1-2 to Luke 21:5-19 to 2 Thessalonians 3:6-13, judgment and a sorting out of the faithful is coming. God is sovereign and has radical freedom to implement divine will. We can look beyond the present moment, however, and consider how the arrival of the Christ child, God Himself incarnate impacts divine judgment.
The season we're entering involves waiting, anticipating, and considering how God's redemptive love works in creation.
