Don't be a seed in the weeds

This Sunday we hear the parable of the sower in Matthew's gospel. You'll recall that the sower sows indiscriminately and the seeds fell all over the place: on the path, on rocky soil, among thorns. There seem to be several ways to consider this story. One is the reception of God's truth, the way it's received by the ground where it falls. This is a kind of allegory. Another way seems to be about the way the sower does the job. Not sowing with targeted judgment but wildly, loosely, broadly, freely. The sower does not take responsibility for the success of the planting but simply allows the seed the opportunity to flourish with God's help. Sometimes we so seeds of grace broadly and sometimes we're more judgmental about it.

Ellen Austin wishes to thank all those who helped out packing lunch boxes for the symphony Pops in the Park event. There were so many helpers that the work was done in record time and well done too!

The theater room is back in working order with steam cleaned seats and carpet and the sound system is good to go. The Discovery Class is studying Israel's mission in the world based on a study by Ray Vander Laan. Come find out how our Christian mission echoes that Old Testament charge from God.
