Humble or Exalted?

This week's parable in Luke makes the point that some religious people have a public faith characterized by performance of religious acts. They like for others to think of them as pious. Other people have private faith based on private and authentic confession of sin. There's no performance about it because there is no one to see them do it. Which does God prefer? It's an interesting question for this week. the lectionary scriptures are: Psalm 84:1-7; Jeremiah 14:7-10, 19-22; Luke 18:9-14; 2 Timothy 4:6-8,16-18.

Fall is in the air and in church programming. Get ready for fifth Sunday pot luck on the 30th. The church will provide chicken tenders and drink. So bring your favorite side dish or desert.

The Service Committee is gearing up for fall drives. At the end of October, we'll begin collecting food contributions for November. There will be an announcement in the November newsletter and inserts in upcoming bulletins with lists of needed items.

There is a presbytery meeting this Thursday and Friday in El Paso. The good news is that this will be the first in-person meeting since the Covid period began.
