What you are looking for may be right in front of you.

News:

Halloween. For all you Celts out there whose ancestry goes back thousands of years in Ireland, England, and norther France, all of you who celebrate New Year's Day on November 1st: Happy All Hallows Evening this coming Monday.

When carving your pumpkin Jack O' Lanterns, do you cut off the top or the bottom. Do you spice up the aroma of the smoke filled interior by sprinkling the pumpkin insides with cinnamon? Do you spend the evening at your favorite coffee shop with a pumpkin spice latte while street urchins wreck your front lawn?

The interesting thing about kids trick or treating is that no trick is really needed to get the treat. Candy is gladly given away just for the pure joy of seeing the face of a happy, Halloween suited child.

Our gospel protagonist this week, Zacchaeus, thought he needed to do something special to get a good look at Jesus. He was earnest in his search for the treat of seeing Jesus, but it turned out that Jesus already knew him and was searching for Zacchaeus. Maybe what we're looking for is really right at our elbow.

Our lectionary readings this week are: Psalm 32:1-7, Isaiah 1:10-18; Luke 19:1-10; 2 Thessalonians 1:1-4,11-12.

See you this Sunday for worship, Noisy Offering, and pot luck lunch!
Allen
