Jesus did not come to bring peace.

Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I tell you, but division.

This weeks scriptures may seem surprising in their harshness. Jesus' statement above might even seem to be the opposite of what we expect from Him. The scriptures this week are: Psalm 82; Jeremiah 23:23-29; Luke 12:49-56; Hebrews 11:29-12:2.

The summer is on it's way out. Last night, the sky even opened up and there was a soaking downpour for nearly half an hour in my yard. If that's not a sign after months of no precipitation, who can say what is? We can also tell that fall is coming by the fact that school is starting and by church activities.

Women's Bible study is back on Wednesdays and next week the history seminar resumes. Please tell your friends about the class and maybe bring one other person who might not attend otherwise.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the fifth Sunday pot luck lunch on July 31st. Thanks to those who brought food, those who prepared the room, and those who cleaned up. These lunches are indeed a community effort and fellowship.

Godspeed,
Allen
