The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind.

Lots of tempestuous imagery in the scriptures this week. The Revised Common Lectionary revolves around the gospel reading each week. Then the other scriptures fill in the theme. The gospel for this Sunday is the familiar episode with the disciples out on the Sea of Galilee with Jesus sleeping in the back of the boat. A storm comes up. Waves crash. Wind howls. Scared disciples wake Jesus up and he calms the storm. Then he gives them a piece of his mind about ... well what do you think he's fussing at them about.

In the psalm we get a similar story that Mark would have surely known by heart. In Job we get God's tempestuous reply to Job's allegations and charges against God. In 2 Corinthians 6, Paul illustrates faith amid calamity. He describes being a Christian when storms are breaking all over you. Hmmm. What will the preacher preach about this week?

Session meets this Thursday at 6 p.m.

Mark your calendar for June 30th. It's the fifth Sunday of the month and we'll have pot luck lunch following worship.
