Wednesday Lectionary Bible Study continues to meet in Fellowship Hall at 6:00 p.m. with physical participants and welcomes those who are staying at home to join by computer on Zoom. The link to join in the Zoom group will be posted on the church website, in Faith Notes, and in the Sunday worship bulletin.
At last week’s meeting the Session voted to join the Presbyterian Church in Abilene with whom we collaborated last year on helping provide a deep water well in Kenya to form a network to continue providing wells under the auspices of the Synod of the Sun. This project is in the beginning stages. The Session will share news about its development as it progresses.
The Thursday Lunch Bunch is meeting in Fellowship Hall at 11:30.
The Service Committee closed the Collection of Hygiene Items last Sunday, and Rev. Cross led a prayer of thanks for the generous contributions that will go to help those in need in our community. The Service Committee will distribute lists for items requested for the Annual Food Drive beginning Sunday.
Doug Mays, chair of the Fellowship and Membership Committee, is having notecards printed for use in contacting people who sign the attendance register as visitors. The cards will have the PCUSA logo on the front and a welcome message and personal note inside. Mays also announced that the long-awaited bulletin board is on the back wall of the sanctuary. He invites people to put up pictures and articles about members of the congregation.
Young members of the church have been reading the Psalm during Sunday worship. Emily Hallford was the reader last week. This month members are asked to volunteer to read the Psalm for one Sunday or for each Sunday in the month.
The Sunday morning Take Ten fellowship in the parlor between Sunday School and worship has resumed. Jenn Patterson will be host for this week.
Lectionary passages for the Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost are: Psalm 19:1-6; Exodus 20:1-4, 7-9, 12-17; Philippians 3:4b-14. Rev. Cross has chosen for his sermon topic ”The In-Between Life.” Rev. Allen Cross will lead the worship service and officiate at Communion. Communion will again be by intinction. Members are reminded to stay separated while in line and to receive the bread with cupped hands. Organist/music director Gabe Martinez leads the music on the organ and piano.
