Wednesday Lectionary Bible Study met as usual in Fellowship Hall at 6:00 p.m. with several physical participants and three people on Zoom. The link to join in the Zoom group will be posted on the church website, Faith Notes, and in the Sunday worship bulletin. The lectionary for the next week is printed on the back page of the church bulletin each Sunday.
The Thursday Lunch Bunch, which had formerly met at various local restaurants, is meeting in Fellowship Hall at 11:30. Bring a brown bag lunch or an order from one of the local restaurants.
Last Sunday a Youth Sunday School class, led by Tom Koger, met in the Youth Room. They began with a study of the Beatitudes and will study the Sermon on the Mount. More young people will be welcome.
Sandra Raef was accepted into membership by reaffirmation of faith and welcomed to First Presbyterian Big Spring during worship service Sunday, August 2.
A graveside celebration of the life of longtime church member Joe Horton was held at Trinity Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, with Rev. Cross leading the worship.
The Communications Committee met Monday, August 10 in the church library at 6:00 p.m. Their next meeting is set for September 14 at the same time and place.
The Service Committee met by email this month. Katie Grimes, Chair, reminded members of the annual Food Drive, which will take place next month.
Lectionary passages for the Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost are: Genesis 45:4,5; Psalm 133; Matthew 15:21-28. Rev. Cross has titled his sermon “What She Said.” Rev. Allen Cross will lead the worship service. Organist/music director Gabe Martinez leads the congregation in singing the hymns, as well as accompanying on the organ and piano.
