Curators of Grace and Love
Psalm 23 is probably the most beloved scripture in the Bible.
The speaker gives us the kind of prayer that we should pray rather than the kind we usually pray that treats God like a machine that dispenses religious consumables. It's all there. Care. Protection. Nurture. Restoration. Grace and love. And it's all laid out there on a table right where we live. Not in some paradise far above but right here in the valley surrounded by life's perils and opposition. We are the community of that table.
But Jesus says that we're supposed to be productive. Bear fruit. Lots of fruit. So maybe all that stuff set out for us on the table is not just for our pleasure. Maybe we are also a community of curators of grace and love that is so rare and exquisite because it can only be found in God. People who eat the generous feast but then use the nourishment to make grace and love more abundant in the world. Maybe this is our calling.
Lectionary passages for this week are: Psalm 23; Acts 4:5-12; John 15:1-8; 1 John 4:7-12.
Session meets this Thursday at 6 pm.
