God is calling and the phone’s for you.
This Sunday is the fourth Sunday in Advent. We have a poignant Psalm and several traditional texts that provide a mixture of details about God and humanity and the birth of Christ Jesus. But not all the details fit together in the way that our tradition connects them. What does that mean?
The apostle Paul wrote to the Roman church words that lead us to understand that the good news of Christ is larger than all the various details of texts that have been sewn together for Advent and Christmas. We are called to something. This week maybe we'll find out what that is.
Our lectionary scriptures are: Psalm 80:1-7,17-19; Isaiah 7:10-16; Matthew 1:18-25; Romans 1:1-7.
This is the final Sunday in Advent. We'll have a short congregational meeting following worship to take care of church business. Next Saturday is Christmas Eve and the following day is Christmas. Christmas on a Sunday. Imagine that. God is calling and the phone is for you.
