How does your heart beat?

This Sunday we are still in the season of Epiphany, the season of revelations about the divine nature of Christ and therefore God almighty. The lectionary scriptures this week emphasize the covenantal relationship between God and humanity and speak to the characteristics of the human heart that God expects. Those, in turn, reveal the characteristics of God's own nature. Two of our readings are among the most quoted of the entire Bible: Micah 6:6-8 and Matthew 5:1-12. No plot spoilers here though. Go look them up and discern what God is telling you for yourself.

The full lectionary texts are: Psalm 15, Micah 6:1-8; Matthew 5:1-12; 1 Corinthians 1:18-31.

This week, all the usual Wednesday activities are in full swing. Presbyterian Women will meet on Tuesday afternoon. Next Sunday there will be a pot luck lunch following worship.

The memorial service for Dr. John Farquhar will be this Saturday at 10 a.m. Mike Mitchell will be playing the organ. A reception will follow.
