Pastor’s Perspective

From the February Church Newsletter 2023

The mom lovingly poured cereal and milk in a bowl and sat it in front of the five year old boy. The boy watched her turn back to the sink and deliberately turned the bowl upside down on the table. Mom heard the noise and exclaimed. She disciplined the boy, cleaned up the mess, and sat him back down to a new bowl of cereal and milk. He did the same thing again and the frustrated mom was speechless. "Why did you do this again when you know better? I have disciplined you and forgiven you but you keep doing the same bad thing." The boy replied: "I do what I want to do."

Lent begins in the middle of February with Ash Wednesday. At the end of Lent comes Good Friday and Easter which mark the gift of divine forgiveness. But before we can receive forgiveness, we have to go through the confessional days of Lent. In Christianity, we have to note how we do just what we want to do even though God has taught us more wholesome ways through the testimony of the Old Testament and Jesus taught us about the Kingdom of God in parable and acts of mercy and justice.

So I invite you to prepare for this confessional season and instead of denying the need to confess, repent by adopting in your heart and mind the wholesomeness of God's kingdom.
