Pastor’s Perspective

We’re on the edge of a busy month. Advent has begun and there are lots of  opportunities for you to serve. Unwrapped Angel Tree gifts for the Salvation Army may be received up until December 4th. Contributions for the Christmas turkey drive benefiting clients of Howard County Resources should be placed in church freezer by December 11th. We’ll also have a Christmas Prayer Breakfast at 8 AM on December 10th and that same evening come to the sanctuary to hear a performance of Vox Cordis, the Big Spring community choir.

These things and more are coming your way this month so join in and let’s prepare for Christ together. In the meantime, here is a Christmas poem with something to think about:

Christmas Mail By Ted Kooser

Cares in each mailbox,

Angel, manger, star and lamb,

As the rural carrier,

Driving the snowy roads,

Hears from her bundles

The plaintive bleating of sheep,

The shuffle of sandals,

The clopping of camels.

At stop after stop,

She opens the little tin door

And places deep in the shadow

The shepherds and wise men,

The donkeys lank and weary,

The cow who chews and muses.

And from her Styrofoam cup,

White as a star and perched

On the dashboard, leading her

Ever into the distance,

There is a hint of hazelnut,

And then a touch of myrrh.
