Promises, promises, promises

We make promises all the time and we're good at rationalizing our failures to keep them. God, however, keeps the promises that God makes. This is a fundamental claim of the New Testament. We begin Lent this week which draws a strong contrast between God's nature and ours. It also draws our attention to the promise of God's grace.

The lectionary readings for the week are fundamental Lent scriptures. We see God making the covenant with Noah. We see Jesus' baptism and temptation. We hear Peter talk about Christ's suffering for our sake despite our sinful natures.

The lectionary scriptures for this week are: Psalm 25:1-10; Genesis 9:8-17; Mark 1:9-15; 1 Peter 3:18-22.

Ash Wednesday services are Wednesday in the chapel beginning at 6 p.m.

Salvation Army gratitude lunch is Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Boys and Girls Club.
