Searching for something higher

Apostle Paul said that Christians die with Christ on Good Friday and rise again with him on Easter. Some don't want to do that. They want Jesus to go through change for their benefit but they, themselves, wish to stay as they are.

Still, following Christ necessitates some kind of change. For one thing, believers must suspend the accepted all understanding about death and life. That's a pretty fundamental change so maybe spiritual transformation isn't such a big step after all. Of course it gets harder when the very thing we have to change is our habits and practices.

Paul also said that if we do in fact die and rise again with Christ then we should seek something higher than what we sought before. Ouch. That sounds like comfort disrupting stuff. Why can't Jesus just do it all for us and leave our attitudes and biases and inclinations as they were before?

This Thursday is Maundy Thursday and we'll have services in the chapel at 6 p.m. Sunday is Easter and we will rise again with Christ to celebrate Holy Communion. We'll also turn in our One Great Hour of Sharing offerings. Happy Easter!
